Maine's Land Use Regulation Commission (LURC) approved the addition of 11 wind turbines for TransCanada Maine Wind Development Inc.'s Kibby Wind Power Project, the Bangor Daily News reports.
LURC members voted 5 to 1 to accept staff recommendations to allow the wind turbines to be added to the 132 MW project located in Eustis, Maine.
However, approval of the project was met with protest. Several anti-wind advocates attended the meeting. The Appalachian Mountain Club, Natural Resources Council of Maine and Maine Audubon partially opposed the project. The town of Eustis, the Franklin County Commission and the Greater Franklin Development Corp. in Farmington all favor the proposal.
The law provides 30 days to appeal Wednesday's decision with the Maine Supreme Judicial Court.
