Logistics Provider Uses Massive Liebherr Crane To Unload Tower Sections

Transportation Partners & Logistics LLC (TP&L) is using a Liebherr crawler crane to unload wind turbine mast sections off of rail cars.

According to the crane manufacturer, TP&L is using the first Liebherr LTR 1220 telescopic boom crawler crane in North America to unload and load wind turbine mast sections off rail cars for onward road transport.

With a rated lifting capacity of 242 tons and a 60-meter telescopic boom, Liebherr says its LTR 1220 is the largest telescopic boom crawler crane in the Americas.

TP&L also plans to use the crane to install wind turbines. Because of narrow track width of 4.5 meters, the crane can operate within most wind farm access roads. It can then extend its track base hydraulically for lifting operations to an intermediate 5.88 meters or full width of 7.25 meters.
