New York-based Logicworks, a hosting solutions provider, has launched a carbon offset program in association with Terrapass. Through this partnership, Logicworks will provide customers with a way to balance out the carbon dioxide emissions generated from the data centers through which Logicworks delivers its hosting and managed database services.
While Logicworks will be purchasing offsets for all of its servers under management, the company will allow both new and existing customers to participate in the program. Customers can signify their participation by displaying a Logicworks/Terrapass carbon neutral logo on their Web sites or any marketing materials.
‘Data centers are one of the fastest-growing contributors to carbon emissions worldwide,’ says Carter Burden, Logicworks' founder and CEO. ‘The growth of the Internet and corresponding processing requirements will continue to vastly outpace any gains in power efficiency made by hardware manufacturers.’
