Legislative Conference Uses Wind Energy Offsets

Leaders from the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) have partnered with the Boston Convention and Events Center (BCEC) to offset the energy use of the conference through the purchase of renewable energy certificates (REC).

The BCEC plans to purchase 5,000 kWh of RECs of Green-e certified wind power from Constellation NewEnergy, the organization says. The effort is part of NCSL's five-year program intended to make its annual meetings more environmentally friendly.

‘We know what type of environmental impact these additional people can have on the city of Boston,’ says Bill Pound, NCSL's executive director. ‘We are trying to be environmentally conscious by taking the needs of our members and the environment into consideration.’
