National City, Calif.-based Knight & Carver Wind Group has partnered with WindPro Insurance to provide a blade maintenance program, which could lead to more favorable premiums and deductible levels for wind projects.
Wind developers and project owners can contract for specifically designed plan for blade repair, service and maintenance. The plan requires regular inspections of blades, including a lightning systems check. According to the company, making sure the system is working properly should ensure that there is less chance of catastrophic failure.
"This is another example of our company building strong alliances within the industry," says Gary Kanaby, Knight & Carver's business development director.
Under the arrangement, wind turbine owners will have blades inspected and repaired during the off-season, a time when shutting down the turbines should not adversely affect productivity.
