Kingman Wind Energy Center Kicks Off Construction

Local dignitaries, including Gov. Sam Brownback, R-Kan., celebrated the kick-off to construction for the 200 MW Kingman Wind Energy Center, located west of Wichita, Kan.

The wind farm, which is being developed by NextEra Energy Resources, is expected to begin producing power by the end of this year. As previously reported, Westar Energy has agreed to purchase the project’s output.

John DiDonato, vice president of wind development for NextEra Energy Resources, says the project will help sustain Kingman County economically and provide clean, renewable energy for Kansans.

“Wind energy creates good, high-paying jobs and produces millions of dollars in payments to landowners and local government, which directly benefits schools, roads and essential services.”

Brownback and other leaders signed a 150-foot wind turbine blade that will be used in the project.
