Indianapolis Power & Light Company (IPL) and enXco, an EDF Energies Nouvelles company, announced plans to move forward with building the 102 MW IPL Hoosier Wind Park in Benton County, Ind.

Approval of IPL's power purchase agreement (PPA) has been granted by the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC). In addition, the recent extension of the federal renewable tax credit by Congress was required for the advancement of the project. A ground breaking is planned for December, and the project is expected to be in operation in 2009.

‘We are delighted to move forward with this project, which represents an important renewable energy source for IPL and an important economic development project for Indiana,’ says Ann Murtlow, IPL's president and CEO. ‘Our customers are increasingly interested in green energy options, and wind is a renewable power source that we can effectively harness in our great state.’

The project includes 21 2 MW wind turbines. The energy from the turbines will be purchased by IPL from enXco under a 20-year PPA approved by IURC.
