Tippecanoe Valley School Corp. (TVSC) has begun the construction of a utility-scale wind turbine on the campus of the Tippecanoe Valley High School and Tippecanoe Valley Middle School.

According to the school district, Tippecanoe Valley will be the first school corporation in the state to install a wind turbine to directly power school facilities, and the project is expected to generate approximately 70% of the campus' electrical power usage. Â

Kosciusko REMC, as utility partner, and Performance Services, as design-builder, worked with TVSC to develop the project.Â

TVSC was awarded $2.3 million in Clean Renewable Energy Bonds. The project includes a 900 kW PowerWind turbine to be erected on school property near the school corporation's bus garage in an agricultural field.Â

The wind turbine is scheduled to be operational by October of this year.
