Wind energy development veteran Tom Carnahan – incoming chairman of the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) – and Equiventus Holding SA have announced the formation of Wind Rose Energy Partners, a clean energy investment fund that will initially focus on wind energy projects that aim to begin construction in 2013 and 2014.
‘This is both a challenging and exciting time in the wind energy industry, and the success of projects will require expertise across the entire spectrum of development,’ says Carnahan, former president, CEO and chairman of wind developer Wind Capital Group. ‘Wind Rose Energy Partners will bring together people with expertise in many different areas of development, enabling us to invest in quality projects and provide the type of insight and technical assistance necessary to bring projects successfully through to completion.’
The lead partners in the business have between them completed the successful development, financing, acquisition, sale and construction of many projects in wind, solar and thermal power across the U.S., Canada and many countries in Europe. They possess relationships with investors, turbine suppliers, utilities and balance-of-plant contractors.
The company will consider a variety of structures in joining with existing owners of portfolios or individual wind projects, including joint ventures, options to purchase according to progress milestones and outright acquisition. The company's purchase structures envision meeting ongoing development costs in order to bring projects to completion of development.
