Iberdrola Renewables has executed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Modesto Irrigation District (MID) for at least half the output from its 99 MW Star Point Wind Project, now under construction near Moro, Ore.
MID, Modesto, Calif.'s public power utility, will purchase the wind energy to bolster its renewable energy portfolio from 12% to 16%. MID has a goal of obtaining 20% of its energy from renewable sources by 2017.
‘This PPA broadens the geographic diversity of MID's wind resources, uses existing transmission lines and puts MID in a good position to respond to California's changing renewable energy targets,’ says Allen Short, MID's general manager.
Construction of the Star Point project created approximately 150 jobs over the summer and fall. Energy deliveries to MID are expected to start in 2010.
