Iberdrola Renewables has extended and expanded an existing power purchase agreement (PPA) with Modesto Irrigation District (MID), the Modesto, Calif., area's public power utility.
The existing 25 MW contract has been extended to June 30, 2015. Then, from July 1, 2015, to June 30, 2028, MID will expand the PPA to 50 MW. MID has a goal of generating 20% of its energy from renewable sources by 2017.
The power from the contract comes from the High Wind Energy Center, located in Solano County, Calif. The project came online in 2003, and MID has been taking deliveries from the 162 MW project since June 1, 2004.
