At a recent annual meeting with employees, Iberdrola Chairman Ignacio Galan outlined the company's plans for this year. Among the projects Iberdrola has planned is the completion of the upgrades to the Whitelee wind farm, which Galan says will be Europe's largest onshore wind project.
Iberdrola will also construct the 400 MW West of Duddon Sands offshore wind farm, as well as begin what it says will be the first subsea transmission line between Scotland and England.
In the U.S., Iberdrola will continue work on the 800 km high-voltage power line in Maine, and finish implementing smart grids throughout the state.
The company said last month that it will suspend new construction of wind farms in the U.S. if the production tax credit for wind energy expires.
Iberdrola is also planning four wind projects totaling 108 MW in Brazil, as well as several smart grid projects in Spain.
