Hydro-Quebec has accepted 15 bids for a total installed generating capacity of 2,004.5 MW to fulfill the company's 2005 request for proposals (RFP) for wind energy. Delivery dates for the projects range from 2011 to 2015.

The projects will require capital outlays estimated at C$5.5 billion, including C$1.1 billion for transmission infrastructure. The winning bids meet the following criteria:

– at least 60% of the total cost of each wind farm will be incurred in Quebec, and

– at least 30% of the cost of the wind turbines will be incurred in the regional county municipality of Matane and the administrative region of Gaspesie-Iles-de-la-Madeleine.

Montreal-based St-Laurent Energies consortium, led by EDF Energies Nouvelles and including Hydromega Services Inc. and RES Canada, was awarded five projects representing a total capacity of 954 MW. Wind turbine manufacturer REpower Systems AG concluded an exclusive option agreement concerning the delivery of wind turbines last year with the consortium. Wind turbines for the remaining projects will be supplied by Enercon.
