Henry Carlson Co., a general contracting company based in Sioux Falls, S.D., has been selected as the design/build partner for two wind tower manufacturing plants operated by Manitowoc, Wis.-based Tower Tech Systems, a wholly owned subsidiary of Broadwind Energy.

The wind tower manufacturing plants, each at 146,000 square feet, will be located in Brandon, S.D., and Abilene, Texas. The plants are specially designed, single-piece-flow production units and will be the first of their kind in North America specifically built for wind tower manufacturing, according to the company.

‘We assembled a team to best match the client's needs, and we're delighted to have this opportunity to partner with Tower Tech to help create America's future energy solutions,’ says Henry Carson, president of the company.

Each facility is expected to employ approximately 150 workers, with expansion options available. Both sites have direct rail access, ample tower storage and the most modern tower production equipment.
