International environmental group Greenpeace has begun airing television ads in Massachusetts targeting opponents of the proposed Cape Wind project, which is slated to be the first offshore wind energy installation in the U.S.
Cape Wind has passed Massachusetts' environmental impact review and the Army Corps of Engineers review, Greenpeace notes, and the project has been certified as having no significant impact on the marine environment, navigational safety and shipping lanes. Publication of the federal draft environmental impact statement by the U.S. Department of the Interior's Mineral Management Service is expected this fall.
Greenpeace members and supporters of the Cape Wind project will be attending public meetings in the coming months, the organization adds.
