The campus of Vergennes, Vt.-based Northlands Job Corps will be the site of the first wind turbine installation in the community wind partnership formed by Green Mountain Power and Northern Power Systems to promote local wind power.
According to Green Mountain Power, the Northlands Job Corps was selected from more than 60 applicants to host the turbine because of its wind resource, its public service mission and a parcel size sufficient for permitting.
Barre, Vt.-based Northern Power Systems designed and manufactured the 121-foot NPS 100 turbine. The turbine will be group net-metered, with the Job Corps receiving 10% of the energy generated from the turbine and Green Mountain Power using the rest. Green Mountain Power will own, operate and maintain the Northern Power 100 kW permanent-magnet direct-drive distributed wind turbine on the Northlands Job Corps campus.
