Google Logging In To Swedish Wind Farms

0

Google has signed a 10-year agreement with Swedish developer Eolus Vind AB to buy all of the electricity generated by four wind farms under development in southern Sweden. Eolus says the projects will supply the internet company's Finish data center with renewable energy.

Totaling 59 MW, the power purchase agreement starts in early 2015. The wind farms will feature 29 turbines of the models Vestas V90, V100 and V112. Along with the wind turbine supply agreement, Eolus says it and Vestas have signed a 10-year full service agreement. Eolus will operate and manage the facilities.

"We're always looking for ways to increase the amount of renewable energy we use," says Francois Sterin, director of global infrastructure at Google. "Long-term power purchase agreements enable wind farm developers to add new generation capacity to the grid – which is good for the environment – but they also make great financial sense for companies like Google."
