Vermont-based utility Green Mountain Power (GMP) says it has begun construction of the 63 MW Kingdom Community Wind project in Lowell, Vt.
Construction of the wind turbines is expected to be complete by the end of 2012. The second part of the project will involve upgrades to Vermont Electric Cooperative's (VEC) transmission system between the towns of Lowell and Jay.
In July, VEC members voted to support the transmission system upgrades. GMP has now met all the pre-construction conditions in the certificate of public good and has received all of the permits required to begin construction, the utility explains.
