The recession is not sparing the fiberglass industry, as Irwindale, Calif.-based Gibson Fiberglass is increasing prices by 15% to 18% per pound for all fiberglass materials direct- and multi-end roving products. The increase also applies to chopped strand BMC/thermoplastic, chopped strand mat, woven roving and all other roll goods.
‘The recent recession has been a burden on the entire composites industry, but fiberglass manufacturers have been particularly hard hit,’ says Joe Peng, president of Gibson Fiberglass. ‘Our energy costs, manufacturing costs, raw-material costs and logistics costs have not dropped significantly during this period. This increase is necessary to help cover the costs increases we are experiencing in these areas.’
The increase affects all shipments delivered on or after Jan. 1, 2010.
