Geronimo Wind Energy has signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Xcel Energy for a total of 200 MW of wind energy to be generated at the Prairie Rose wind farm.

The project, which is proposed for Rock and Pipestone counties, Minn., will consist of up to 125 wind turbines to be constructed across 25,000 acres of leased land. The project is expected to provide more than $2 million in annual tax revenues for the county and create an estimated 200 construction jobs. The completed project will result in the creation of 10 to 12 permanent jobs for operations and maintenance of the facility.

Xcel Energy has filed the contract with the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission for approval. Construction on the project is expected to begin by the end of the year and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2012.
