GE Plans To Expand In Schenectady

Gov. Eliot Spitzer, D-N.Y., has announced that GE Power Generation will add 500 highly skilled jobs to its Schenectady, N.Y.-based workforce and renovate more than 200,000 square feet of existing space on its GE Energy campus.

The $39 million project is expected to be completed in 18 months, and the company has pledged to fulfill its hiring goal of 500 jobs by 2011. The new employees will provide engineering support to multiple divisions throughout GE.

This latest decision follows GE's announcement last summer to open a new Wind Product Management and Customer Support Center in its Schenectady-based global headquarters.

In addition, GE is invited to apply for up to $1.4 million from the New York State Energy Research Development Authority for energy-efficient equipment and construction.
