GE says it has expanded its wind services portfolio to include production-based availability (PBA) guarantees as an option for new and existing operations and maintenance contracts on all GE 1.5 MW and 2.5 MW wind turbines.
These production guarantees, which will be available later this year, have been designed specifically to ensure that wind turbines are available during periods of high wind speeds, the company says.
GE notes that its North American fleet of 1.5 MW turbines achieved 98.6% time-based availability in 2010. The PBA guarantee takes into consideration availability, while at the same time balancing turbines' peak production across a wind farm.
‘While keeping time-based availability high will continue to be important, factoring in key performance trends gives GE's wind services team a better perspective on how to best operate a site,’ GE said in a statement.
