GDF SUEZ says it plans to build and operate the largest wind farm in Africa.
The 300 MW Tarfaya wind farm – which is owned in partnership with Nareva Holding, a Moroccan energy company – will be located in Morocco. It will also be the largest wind project constructed by GDF SUEZ.
According to GDF SUEZ, the project will be built in a coastal desert location that features optimal wind conditions. The Tarfaya project has been contracted to supply electricity to the Moroccan state utility Office National de l'Electricita et de l'Eau Potable under a 20-year long-term power purchase agreement on a build, own, operate and transfer basis. The wind farm is expected to be commissioned at the end of 2014.
