0

Following its second call for offshore wind tenders last year, the French government has awarded a consortium consisting of GDF SUEZ, EDP Renewables, Neoen Marine and AREVA two projects totaling 1 GW. The group was competing with another consortium made up of EDF Energies Nouvelles, wpd offshore and Alstom.

The award includes two 500 MW offshore wind schemes, with one located off Treport in the Haute Normandie region and the other between the Ile d' Yeu and Ile de Noirmoutier in the Pays de la Loire region.

The GDF-led consortium plans to use AREVA's new 8 MW wind turbines, which are slated to be manufactured beginning in 2018. Project construction is scheduled to start in 2019 and be completed in 2021.
