Gamesa recently landed an order for the supply of 142 G114-2.1 MW wind turbines at the El Cabo wind farm, being built in New Mexico.
The wind farm is being developed by Avangrid Renewables, a merger of Iberdrola USA and UIL Holdings Corp.
Gamesa says the 298 MW contract, which was signed during the second quarter of this year, is one of the largest it has ever secured. The company says it currently has 4,338 MW of wind installed in the U.S.
Delivery of the turbines is due to begin in March of next year; commissioning is expected to follow in June. Once operational, the El Cabo wind complex will be capable of meeting the energy needs of over 200,000 households and prevent the emission of around 447,000 metric tons of CO2, says Gamesa.
