Gamesa Wind USA will rehire 79 employees who were temporarily laid off last November, according to Gov. Edward G. Rendell, D-Pa. The company will also hire an additional 50 people because of a $22.8 million grant from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
In addition, the ARRA funds will allow three large-scale wind projects to be constructed in Pennsylvania. The $22.8 million comes from ARRA's Green Energy Works! Wind grant program and is expected to create or retain 387 jobs.
Gamesa will use $7.8 million to install 19 2 MW wind turbines at the Chestnut Flats Wind Farm in Cambria and Blair counties. The project is expected to create 85 jobs. $10 million will be used for Iberdrola Renewables' South Chestnut wind project to install 23 2 MW turbines in Fayette County that will create 129 jobs. Finally, $5 million will be used the Broad Mountain Wind Energy Center's installation of eight turbines near Frackville in Schuykill County under a project that will create 43 jobs.
