Fragrance Manufacturer Brings 2.4 MW Wind Turbine On-Site

International Flavors & Fragrances Inc. (IFF) has deployed what it calls the “flavor and fragrance industry’s” first on-site wind project, located at the New York City-headquartered company’s manufacturing facility in Tilburg, the Netherlands.

The single turbine, which has an output of 2.4 MW, will produce approximately 6.5 million kWh of renewable electricity per year – the energy equivalent of what is needed to power 1,860 households, the company says.

IFF estimates that the tower will provide up to 30% of the site’s electricity needs; however, combined with its purchased clean energy, the facility will be powered by 100% renewables.

The company, which employs 6,700 globally, is a producer of products such as fragrances, detergents, household goods, and food and beverages.

“Our new on-site wind turbine at our Tilburg facility is a big step for us in our exciting journey to lead positive transformational changes as we realize our Vision 2020 business strategy,” comments Andreas Fibig, chairman and CEO of IFF.

In 2015, IFF formally reaffirmed its commitment to renewable energy with its support of RE100, a global initiative of businesses committed to 100% renewable electricity.
