Pattern Energy Group LP and Samsung Renewable Energy have signed four separate power purchase agreements (PPAs) with the Ontario Power Authority (OPA). These agreements will provide 870 MW of power to the OPA.
Pattern and Samsung say they are making significant progress with their wind projects in Ontario, including South Kent Wind, a 270 MW project under development in Chatham-Kent, and the Grand Renewable Energy Park, which is under development in Haldimand County.
In addition, Pattern and Samsung have signed agreements to develop and acquire two projects totaling 450 MW. These four projects make up the 870 MW portfolio represented in the PPAs.
The announcement is a direct result of Samsung's Green Energy Investment Agreement with the government of Ontario, which commits Samsung and its partners to bring C$7 billion in investment to the province to create new manufacturing jobs and capacity and generate 2,500 MW of renewable energy.
