Floating Offshore Foundation Prototype Passes Test

Rostock, Germany-based GICON says results from recent wind and wave tank testing have given it confidence to move toward building a prototype floating offshore wind foundation.

According to GICON, testing at the Maritime Research Institute Netherlands confirmed the floating foundation's operational capabilities. The company expects to construct a full-scale prototype that will float in the German Baltic Sea in 2014.

GICON notes its floating foundation technology rivals conventional offshore foundations. For starters, the foundation is deployable in water depths from 20 meters to 700 meters and can be installed without special installation jack-up vessels.
