First Wind To Host Ground Breaking For Hawaii Project

First Wind plans to host a ground-breaking ceremony July 13 for the 30 MW Kahuku Wind project. The ceremony will bring together state and local political officials, environmental agencies and members of the local community.

First Wind officials will also be on hand to discuss the economic and environmental benefits of the Kahuku Wind project, which will consist of the construction and operation of 12 2.5 MW Clipper Liberty wind turbines. The project will also feature new technology, such as an energy-storage system developed by Xtreme Power Inc.

Speakers include Gov. Linda Lingle, R-Hawaii; Paul Gaynor, CEO of First Wind; and Dick Rosenblum, CEO of Hawaiian Electric Co.
