Newton, Mass.-based First Wind, an independent wind power company, has donated a total of $30,000 to four Maine county-based community programs. This donation is part of a statewide effort by First Wind to help Maine residents with heating costs.

The four programs, which received $7,500 each, are Aroostook County Action Program Inc., Community Concepts, Penquis Keep ME Warm Fund and Washington Hancock Community Agency THAW Fund. All of the programs are members of the Maine Community Action Association Inc.

‘First Wind is committed to the development of new sources of clean wind energy for the people of Maine, but we also recognize the challenges many families will face this winter as they cope with the rising home heating costs associated with traditional fuel sources,’ says Matt Kearns, vice president of development for First Wind. ‘We are pleased to make these donations, which are part of our larger effort to support existing programs across Maine that provide financial assistance to residents in need.’
