Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort, located in Hancock, Mass., became the first business of its kind in North America to produce its own electricity from a wind turbine when its 1.5 MW GE turbine began producing power.
According to the resort, the turbine will produce an average of 5,000 kWh per day in August and up to 20,000 kWh per day in the windier fall and winter months. The wind turbine is expected to reduce the resort's electricity costs by more than 50% each year.
Sustainable Energy Developments Inc., based in Ontario, N.Y, acted as the project manger for the installation.
