Chattanooga, Tenn.-based Signal Wind Energy LLC says the first phase of the Sunray Wind Farm in Moore County, Texas, has been completed. When fully complete, the wind farm will consist of 33 1.5 MW GE sle wind turbines and is expected to produce about 50 MW of electricity.
Signal Wind is the balance-of-plant general contractor for this project and is responsible for the design and construction of all civil infrastructure, the electrical collection system and the project substation. Signal Wind is also erecting the wind turbines and towers.
Sunray Wind, a subsidiary of Valero Energy, developed the project. Valero Energy has invested over $100 million in developing and constructing this renewable energy project.
‘The Sunray project is a great example of an energy company taking meaningful steps towards alternative energy generation,’ says Ben Fischer, Signal Wind's president.
Construction on Phase I began in November 2008, and the entire project is slated for completion this year. Phase II consists of roads, infrastructure, electrical collection systems and a substation for the remaining 27 wind turbines to complete the facility.
