EDF, wpd Pool Resources To Answer France’s Offshore Power Call

EDF Energies Nouvelles and wpd offshore will again pool their resources to develop a competitive bid to answer the French government's second offshore wind energy power call.

Under the agreement, the companies will pool their expertise and financial resources through a joint company, in which EDF will hold a controlling interest.

They will rely on agreements signed with Alstom to propose a 6 MW French-made wind turbine especially designed for offshore wind farms. Alstom's Haliade 150-6MW offshore turbine, specifically developed to meet the strict constraints imposed by the marine environment, is one of the largest and most powerful in the world.

Based on the success from an initial partnership in 2011, which was in response to the government's first power call, the companies maintain their expertise is now broader and deeper.

EDF's offshore wind energy portfolio includes more than 277 MW under construction and approximately 2.5 GW under development. With nearly 10 years of experience in delivering large-scale offshore projects, EDF brings expertise from two major projects: C-Power, a 325 MW offshore wind farm in Belgium, and the 62 MW Teesside project in the U.K., which will be completed in June.

wpd's offshore portfolio includes 18 projects in 6 countries, 8 of which have obtained all the construction permits for a total capacity of 2.5 GW.
