EDF Renewable Energy (EDF RE) says its 194 MW Spinning Spur 3 Wind Project in Texas reached commercial operations on Sept. 28 – three months ahead of schedule.
The clean electricity generated from the project – enough to power approximately 58,200 homes – will be provided to two municipal utilities, Georgetown Utility Systems and Garland Power & Light, under long-term power purchase agreements.Â
The project, located 50 miles west of Amarillo in Oldham County, feeds into the Competitive Renewable Energy Zone transmission infrastructure and comprises 97 Vestas V-100 2 MW wind turbines.
With the Spinning Spur 3 project in operation, EDF RE's installed capacity in Texas has now reached 1.066 GW through six wind energy projects.
