EDF Renewable Energy (RE) says that the 175 MW Pilot Hill Wind Project, located in Illinois, reached commercial operation on Sept. 26.
Microsoft Corp. has agreed to purchase the output over 20 years. The output will power 100% of the energy needs of the tech giant's Illinois data center.
Pilot Hill, located 60 miles southwest of Chicago in Kankakee and Iroquois counties, commenced construction of its 103 GE wind turbines in September 2014.
EDF Renewable Services, the leading provider of renewable operations and maintenance (O&M) services in North America, will provide balance-of-plant O&M for the facility, including 24/7 remote monitoring from its operations control center.
