EDF Energies Nouvelles has announced the commissioning of the La Mata La Ventosa wind farm, which has a total installed capacity of 67.5 MW. The project is located in the state of Oaxaca, in southern Mexico.
The project comprises of 27 turbines with a capacity of 2.5 MW each, supplied by U.S. manufacturer Clipper Windpower. The electricity generated by the wind farm will meet the consumption needs of a number of stores owned by retailer Wal-Mart Mexico, with whom a 15-year electricity supply agreement has been signed under the self-supply regulations of Mexico.
Earlier this month, EDF Energies Nouvelles received the 2010 Deal of the Year award from the Export-Import Bank of the United States for the Clipper Windpower turbines transaction related to La Mata La Ventosa wind project in Mexico.
La Mata La Ventosa was developed and built by EDF Energies Nouvelles' Mexican subsidiary, Electrica del Valle de Mexico, and is fully owned by the group. Clipper and EDF Energies Nouvelles' U.S. subsidiary, enXco, will be responsible for the operations and maintenance of the wind farm.
