A wind energy consortium led by EDF EN Canada reports that Hydro-Quebec Distribution has awarded a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) to the 224.4 MW Nicolas-Riou wind project, located in the Basques and Rimouski-Neigette regional county municipalities (RCMs).
According to EDF EN Canada, Hydro-Quebec Distribution selected the project following the provincial utility's 2013 call for tenders. The project is jointly owned by EDF EN Canada, which owns 50% of the project, and several entities of the local RCMs.
The C$500 million project will be powered by 68 Vestas 3.3 MW V117 wind turbines, notes EDF EN Canada, adding that construction is planned to begin in spring 2016.
