EDF EN Canada Inc., a subsidiary of EDF Energies Nouvelles, and Enbridge Inc. dedicated the 300 MW Blackspring Ridge Wind Project, located in Vulcan County, Alberta.

According to EDF, construction of the 166-turbine wind farm commenced last year, and the project reached commercial operation last May. With an investment of about $600 million, the project is the largest investment in wind energy in western Canada, notes EDF.

EDF EN Canada, Enbridge and Vestas officials joined Alberta Energy Minister Diana McQueen, Reeve of Vulcan County Derrick Annable, Mayor of Carmangay Kym Nichols and more than 100 invited guests to mark the occasion.

‘For wind projects to thrive in the competitive Alberta electricity market, they need to generate electricity at the lowest possible cost,’ says Chris Brown, president of Vestas' sales and service division. ‘This project is a testament to the tenacity and creativity among the team, and we have already built on our partnerships with EDF EN and Enbridge to pursue additional opportunities.’
