E.ON has begun construction on its Bruenning’s Breeze Wind Farm, a 228 MW project located in Willacy County, Texas.
The wind farm will be E.ON’s 22nd wind project nationwide and its second in Willacy County.
Bruenning’s Breeze is named after Michelle Bruenning, a member of E.ON’s Texas legal team who passed away from cancer in 2014.
“Any time we begin construction on a wind farm is an exciting time for us, but beginning construction on this wind farm is especially poignant for us,” says Patrick Woodson, chairman of E.ON North America. “Michelle Bruenning was a treasured colleague who was always looking for ways to help others, volunteering whenever an opportunity presented itself.
“For her funeral, Michelle asked that people wear Hawaiian shirts, rather than black, because she wanted it to be a celebration,” Woodson continues. “That this wind farm is located close to the Gulf Shore beaches is fitting, as Michelle loved the beach so much. We hope that Bruenning’s Breeze Wind Farm will be a lasting testament to Michelle’s memory and the impact she made on the E.ON family.”
Bruenning’s Breeze will consist of 76 3 MW turbines built by Acciona/Nordex.
E.ON is currently also constructing Radford’s Run Wind Farm, a 278 MW project in Macon County, Ill. Both Radford’s Run and Bruenning’s Breeze are projected to be completed by the end of 2017.
