Duke Energy Renewables, a commercial business unit of Duke Energy, has announced that it will build, own and operate the 200 MW Los Vientos I wind project, located in Willacy County, Texas.

Duke will sell all of the output from the wind farm and associated renewable energy credits to CPS Energy under the terms of a 25-year agreement. CPS currently buys all of the electricity generated at Duke's 14 MW Blue Wing solar project in San Antonio, Texas.

Duke plans to start construction of the project in the fourth quarter of this year and achieve commercial operation in December 2012. The wind farm will be sited on 30,000 acres of leased land.

The company is also developing a second phase of the Los Vientos wind farm in the region, but has not yet announced a power purchase agreement for that phase.
