Duke Energy Renewables expects to close on a deal later this month to buy a 50% share in Sumitomo Corp.'s 211 MW Mesquite Creek Wind Farm in Texas.
The project, located near Lamesa, Texas, will be jointly owned by Duke Energy Renewables and Sumitomo Corporation of Americas through the joint venture, DS Cornerstone LLC. The transaction is expected to close in late July or early August.
Duke Energy Renewables and Sumitomo are certainly no strangers. The two firms jointly own Kansas-based Ironwood and Cimarron II Windpower Projects, which began commercial operation in 2012.
‘We are pleased to be expanding our successful partnership with Sumitomo and continuing to grow our renewables business,’ says Greg Wolf, president of Duke Energy's commercial portfolio. ‘Our investments in renewable energy demonstrate our commitment to provide affordable, innovative and increasingly clean power to our customers.’
