Duke Energy Generation Services has reached a tentative agreement to develop the 169 MW Ironwood Wind Power Project in Kansas for Westar Energy.
Westar will agree to purchase all of the power from the project for 20 years. In a recent filing with the Kansas Corporation Commission, the rate paid for the power would be less than $0.035 cents /kWh.Â
Although the deal still needs board approval from Westar and Duke Energy, the project is expected to be in service before the end of 2011. The project will feature 73 Siemens' 2.3 MW turbines.Â
Westar also signed a power purchase agreement to purchase 201 MW of electricity from Wind Capital Group's Post Rock Wind Energy Facility, located in Kansas' Ellsworth and Lincoln counties.Â
