DONG Energy Offshore Wind Farm To Use Siemens’ 6 MW Machine

DONG Energy has announced that it will build the Westermost Rough offshore wind farm, which will be located in the North Sea on the east coast of the U.K.

The construction of the wind farm and its transmission assets will represent a total investment of approximately 1 billion euros, DONG Energy says. When the wind farm enters operation, the transmission assets will be sold to an offshore transmission operator, as required by U.K. regulations.

The Westermost Rough offshore wind farm will be situated 8 km off the Yorkshire Coast, east of Hull. The project will consist of 35 Siemens 6 MW wind turbines, for a total capacity of 210 MW. A Siemens 6 MW turbine was recently erected at DONG Energy's demonstration site, Gunfleet Sands 3, and has already been tested at Test Centre Osterild and Test Centre Hovsore in Denmark.

Offshore construction of the Westermost Rough offshore wind farm will begin in the first half of 2014, and the project is expected to be fully commissioned in the first half of 2015.
