DONG Energy has received approval of an amended building consent for the Borkum Riffgrund 2 Offshore Wind Farm, to be situated off the coast of Germany.
The original consent was granted in December 2011. However, DONG Energy says it needed the amended consent in order to deploy 8 MW wind turbines. The approval has now been granted by German consenting authority Bundesamt für Seeschifffahrt und Hydrographie.
Now that the developer has received all necessary permits, it will continue building the project as planned. Borkum Riffgrund 2 is expected to be fully commissioned in 2019.
The wind farm, to be located 54 kilometers off the coast of Lower Saxony, will be situated next to one of DONG Energy’s other wind farms, Borkum Riffgrund 1.
With a total export capacity of 450 MW, the project will comprise 56 of MHI Vestas’ 8 MW turbines with rotor spans of 164 meters – representing the largest wind turbines in German waters, says DONG Energy.
