Consulting firm DNV, based in Oslo, Norway, has acquired Seattle-based wind consultancy company Global Energy Concepts (GEC).

DNV and GEC will provide expanded service offerings, capabilities and international reach by bringing together European and North American expertise in wind energy. The market will be offered an array of wind energy services for a wind project's entire life-cycle, including both onshore and offshore technology applications, according to the company.

"Initially, we were not looking to be acquired, but the more we learned about DNV, the more we realized that it was a good match," says Karen Conover, GEC's founder. "Together we can provide a broader portfolio than we could do on our own. In addition, the acquisition provides a broader international reach, access to R&D resources, the ability to bring together European and U.S. expertise in wind energy, and greater career opportunities for our employees."

DNV Global Energy Concepts will continue to operate from offices in Seattle, and Lowell, Mass., together with DNV's existing wind energy teams in Copenhagen, Denmark, London and Oslo.
