Construction has begun on the Broken Bow Wind Project in Custer County, Neb., Edison Mission Group (EMG), Midwest Wind Energy LLC (MWE) and Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) have jointly announced.

The $145 million wind project, which will be 100% owned and operated by EMG, will have a capacity of approximately 80 MW. All of the power produced by Broken Bow will be sold to NPPD under a 20-year power purchase agreement.

The facility will be powered by 50 1.6 MW wind turbines, which will be mounted on 80-meter-high towers. Development of the site by MWE and EMG began in 2009 after the companies were awarded a power purchase agreement by NPPD.

Construction of the wind farm is scheduled to be completed by November 2012.
