E.ON says it has started construction of the 288 MW Amrumbank West wind farm, having installed the project's first foundation in the North Sea.

Amrumbank West will feature 80 Siemens 3.6-MW wind turbines and is scheduled to enter service in summer 2015. To help build Amrumbank and other offshore projects, E.ON notes it has chartered the MPI Discovery, a self-elevating turbine installation vessel or jackup rig, for several years. The company says capital expenditures on the Amrumbank project will total about EUR 1 billion.
