Gov. Bill Ritter, D-Colo., congratulated legislators for giving final approval to H.B.1001, which will increase the state's renewable portfolio standard (RPS) to 30% by 2020. This legislation is expected to create thousands of new jobs and provide the state more clean energy.
‘We are building a clean energy economy and a new energy future for Colorado, showing the rest of the country how to increase economic, energy and environmental security for generations to come,’ says Ritter.
Colorado became the first state with a voter-approved RPS in 2004, with the passage of Amendment 37, which set a 10% by 2015 goal. In 2007, the RPS was doubled to 20% by 2020.
