With the recent approval of a memorandum of understanding (MOU), a clean energy industry initiative has been launched that is designed to benefit major Texas regions, including the Bryan/College Station and greater Houston areas, as well as the surrounding communities.
The proposed Arena Project is the vision of Arena Clean Energy LLC, in collaboration with the expertise and efforts of industry, academic and government leaders. The Arena Project envisions development of a large-scale, clean energy industry center and inland port.
Upon completion, the Arena Clean Energy Park will seek to create a strategically located, globally significant center for clean energy manufacturing, installation, service, support, warehousing, distribution, transportation, education, research and development.
The MOU provides for Arena Clean Energy to aggressively seek key clean and traditional energy partners, participants and funding for initial start-up and development.
‘We believe the emerging clean energy industry needs a home very much like computer technology needed Silicon Valleyâ¦one strategic region where people, companies and communities are all working synergistically together,’ says Sam Bond of Area Clean Energy.
The Research Valley Partnership Inc., a regional economic development organization for the Bryan/College Station area, will contribute by facilitating academic and government relations, including identifying possible tax and development initiatives. In addition, Research Valley will help identify, procure and provide suitable land for project development.
Arena will seek to target and encompass wind, solar, ethanol, biofuels, fuel cell, tidal, hydro and other emerging technologies for power generation, improved energy storage and transportation, as well as more efficient technologies associated with traditional fossil fuels.
